During the early 1950’s the sad decline of the house began. By 1958, under a threat of demolition, a preservation order was placed on the now derelict house and it was brought by Patrick Trevor-Roper who restored it with funds from the Historic Buildings Council. Continuing the family tradition, Patrick leased the house to tenants until 1977 when Plas Teg was sold to Mr and Mrs William Llewellyn. They only used parts of the ground floor of the main house, allowing the rest to become little more than a ruin! Plas Teg’s saviour appeared in 1986 in the form of the present owner, Mrs Cornelia Bayley who restored the house at a cost of £750,000, which included a £250,000 grant from CADW.

Plas Teg is one of Wales' hidden gems and I whole heartedly recommend a visit to see the beautiful building, which also houses the various collections amassed by Mrs Bayley that have been featured in Country Life as well as Miller's seminal work entitled 'Period Style'.
