Bert Proctor

Peacefully passed away on 8th January 2009 aged 92.

Bert is buried at Holy Trinity Church, Gwersyllt

Cornelia has known Bert from Gwersyllt (originally from Bolton) for 17 years.

He has helped her with all forms of maintenance at Plas Teg, including repairing furniture, decorating and much of the restoration; he has been her very close friend sharing the lows and highs of running this Jacobean manor house.

At 90 he was still driving.

He was also still conducting tours, and only stopped 18 months ago because he couldn't navigate the many stairs at Plas Teg. even when he stopped doing tours he would come and sit in the Great Hall by the fire every Sunday & answer questions from members of the public.

He had many experiences with ghosts at Plas Teg, and many that unnerved him.

When 'Girls Aloud' visited Plas Teg with the Most Haunted crew he was televised opening the door and saying "Come in" in his antiquated way to scare the girls!
He has been involved with many television crews filming at Plas Teg over the years, and apart from Mrs Bayley, he was more acquainted with the house than anyone.

Quote: "I couldn't have managed without his help over the years; he was an integral part of Plas Teg, everyone including myself loved him, and his gentle kind persona. He liked to regale people with his anecdotes from his time during the war.

In his 80's he taught me how to use a pick in the gardens of Plas Teg, using his experience whilst in a prison of war camp in Crete where he was imprisoned for most of the war.
He was responsible for planting most of the plants in the gardens of Plas Teg. "I am heartbroken to lose him and will miss him so very very much." - Cornelia Bayley
